As a homeowner, you know that serious issues can happen suddenly, caused by things that you would least expect to be the cause of a problem. While relatively rare, one example of this concept is the exhaust vent of a home’s clothes dryer. If not installed properly, this simple, everyday, mostly ignorable object can cause serious issues. Like what?
One thing that could happen is water damage. Each load of laundry that you dry could have as much as a gallon of water in it. Much of that moisture is expelled through the dryer’s exhaust vent. If your vent’s ductwork is pointed indoors instead of outside, it could be trapping that moisture inside your walls and ceiling.
Another potential hazard is fire. Dryer exhaust vent ductwork should be installed as straight as possible. Too many curves and sharp turns can trap dryer lint, which can be a serious fire hazard.
