When you’re working hard in the kitchen making your famous recipe, it can be tempting to take some shortcuts to avoid cleaning up the big mess that usually comes afterward. However, one shortcut that you should never take is pouring fat or grease down your kitchen sink’s drain.
Some people reason that if they keep the hot water on while they pour down things like bacon grease, it’ll keep the grease liquid and it won’t get stuck to their pipes. While that may be true to a certain extent, at some point, that bacon grease will eventually meet up with cooler water, and it will coagulate and harden. You may not notice the negative effects of this clog for some time, but it will happen. Instead of pouring fat and grease down your drain, what can you do? Let it sit on your counter until it cools! Then, once it’s nearly solid, just scrape it off into your trash can.
