Choosing appliances for your home can be a slightly daunting task. There are so many options and varieties. Let’s discuss choosing a washer and dryer set.

First, you need to decide whether to purchase side-by-side units or stackable units. Stackable is great for saving space, and this may be your only option. They are usually more energy efficient than side-by-side units, so they may help you save money. But the load capacity is usually smaller. Also, when you get a stackable set, you pretty much are locked into getting the same brand, no mix-and-matching, as they are designed for sitting on each other securely. So that may limit you if you find some good deals with differing brands.

Stackable units may require higher installation costs than side-by-side units. The setup is more complicated. Another thing to consider is that front-loading washers are often more prone to mold and mildew buildup than top-loading washers, so more maintenance is required to keep them clean. Lastly, consider the height of those in your family who will be using the dryer. Will it be convenient to reach? Side-by-side units may be better if you want to have counter space on top for folding laundry.
