Once again, tornado season is approaching. As fall closes in on us, taking the time to make sure that we will be able to ride out the storm is essential. Tornadoes are the cause of billions of dollars of destruction and cost the lives of many each year.
What you can do in a storm depends much on where you live. If you live in a mobile home, there are no guaranteed safe places. In fact, a mobile home could be picked up and thrown quite a distance if the tornado is powerful enough, so your plan should be to seek shelter in a safe location before the storm starts.
If your home has a basement, that is usually the safest place to be, but if it does not have one, seek shelter under a staircase, inside an interior room or in your bathroom. It is usually a good idea to find something to cover yourself with to protect you from falling debris, such as a thick mattress or anything similar.
