If you find something that looks like mold in your home, what do you do? It might be that you have heard that you should send it to a lab to have it analyzed, but how would you go about getting a sample? It is actually very simple, and it can be done with some simple items that most homeowners have sitting in a drawer at home.

First, you want to locate a good spot for taking a sample. It should be fairly dense with the suspected mold. Take a piece of scotch tape and press it firmly against the suspected area. Of course, you should avoid doing this on the surface of something valuable where paint might peel off with the tape. Once you have the suspected mold on the tape, attach it to the inside of a ziplock bag and then you have a sample that you can send to a lab. They can give you all the information you need to make a good decision on your next steps.
