As mentioned in our last post, we’d like to talk to you about modern window technology. Knowing more about your windows can help empower you to deal with issues that may come up related to them. This time, we’d like to inform you about low emissivity (or Low-E) windows.
While we’ve talked about Low-E windows in the past, we’ve focused a little more on their disadvantages. In this post, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and talk up their benefits a little more. Low-E windows are windows that have a transparent, even microscopic coating that helps to prevent infrared and ultraviolet radiation from passing through them. Among their advantages is the fact that they are more difficult to scratch or damage, and their blocking UV rays means that your furniture and finishes will not be ‘bleached’ by the sunlight that comes through the windows. More importantly, though, Low-E windows can improve the energy efficiency of your home significantly.
